Father Chronicles III

The first time I visited my father after my parents' divorce I was trying to figure out how he was going to handle things. What are we going to do for fun, where would we go? What would we talk about? I was so used to the three of us . It was no more. I was especially concerned about dinner time. My mother was and is an excellent cook so I thought to myself, he is probably not going to cook. And there was no way my mother was cooking bringing food over for us to eat. Absolutely not! Not Tuda! No way ! He will take me out to eat for sure I thought. Well dinner time rolled around and I saw him head to the kitchen. There I saw a sack of red potatoes, some ground beef, tomatoes and some lettuce other veggies. I watched but briefly and headed back to watch television because I knew he was going to make mashed potatoes but how was he going to whip them up without a blender? Smh

"Chiquita!!" My dad called my name and there we sat at the kitchen nook. It smelled good but I wasnt sure. My plate contained mashed red skin potatoes, a little lumpy, meat loaf and a bowl with salad. I hestitated because mama didnt make red skin mashed potatoes . I admit I was skeptical but I took the plunge and dug in and was pleasantly surprised that the food tasted great! Seasoned well and everything. In fact I wanted seconds. After we settled in I remember giving my dad a long side eye as if to say "Ohhh so you do know how to cook?" I gotta feeling my momma knew too. Btw I love mashed red potatoes with the skins.
